Meet Taika Waititi

“I never wanted to be a filmmaker. I still, sometimes, think I got sidetracked by this, like this is a tangent. My main thing was painting; I was just going to do that.”

 ~Taika Waititi

Oddball writer, filmmaker, actor, and comedian, Taika Waititi, has bewildered and awed international audiences with his hot takes on contemporary and conservative issues. Through a surreal, magical, and humorous lens, Waititi embraces the sometimes uncomfortable conversations he directs towards his viewers. A New Zealand native of Maori, Russian Jewish, and French-Canadian descent, Waititi has carved his name in the film and TV industry as one of the best.

Waititi is best known for the brilliant dark horror-esque mockumentary, What We Do In The Shadows (2019-Present), following the lives of three immortal fiends (Matt Berry,  Natasia Demetriou, and Kayvan Novak) doing a lousy job of trying to make sense of the modern age on the backends of Staten Island. Waititi even stars in the series briefly alongside some other iconic actors & actresses by the likes of Tilda Swinton, Danny Trejo, and Wesley Snipes.

Waititi has mastered peculiar, and wacky envisionments of some iconic cinema characters, historical figures, and overall off-the-wall ideas about humanness and universal randomness.

His charming demeanor and sharp-witted rapid-fire responses throw any audience member or casting team for a loop with his spot-on performances and inspiring words on the cinema craft. With massively successful and boundary daring works such as the critically acclaimed Jojo Rabbit (2019) in which he portrays an unorthodox take on Hitler, Waititi has exceeded critics' and audiences expectations alike. Stay tuned for more of Taika Waititi’s works as he submerges his new career ventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the new writer-director for Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)!
