Meet Nisha Ganatra

Nisha Ganatra is no stranger to the Hollywood scene, but why haven’t we heard her name more often?! She wears numerous hats as a writer, director, producer, and actress!

Ganatra excels at crafting comedic and dramatic masterpieces. Her resume extends from Mr.Robot(2015), Transparent(2014), Late Night(2019), and The High Note(2020). The Emmy Award-winning writer & director has repped the Indian community as an important face on screen and behind the scenes of some massively influential shows in the pop culture mainstream.

Ganatra maintains themes of feminine empowerment and inclusive facets of various feminine identities across race, ethnicity and class. She’s self-aware in keeping more than one character of color at the heart of the film or series, making sure that their conversations on screen don’t center around White people, spaces, plots, etc.

When we think about the importance of diversifying media and mediums, Ganatra’s projects reign as distinctive pieces that don’t stick to the traditional rom-com or drama molds of former Hollywood waves.

Getting started in roles such as a director and producer for several episodes of MTV’s groundbreaking reality TV series The Real World(1992-2017), it’s evident that Ganatra holds a passion for elevating types of film and television that reflect genuine human moments in addition to contemporary themes of love, relationships, intersectionality, and more!

It’s uplifting to know that such a respected industry veteran of color is still headstrong in the game, ready to deliver her take on trending content and authentic storytelling. She maintains a sturdy belief in making the film process an enlightening and equally collaborative experience.

Some of Ganatra’s latest works like Late Night(2019) produced alongside and starring the sensational comedy queen, Mindy Kaling, have buzzed amongst critic circles as powerfully funny films with purpose. She’s challenged gender ideas about women in the workplace, and the misogyny that surrounds feminine discrimination on in work settings. Projects like these bring more and more women of color on board to produce cinema magic! Keep an eye out for more of Ganatra’s works in progress for 2022.
